# Day Trips from Major Cities

Involving authentic wine experiences in your travel plans is something that many people dream of and it's actually pretty easy.  I'm not specifically talking about having a great bottle at a top restaurant, which just requires a reservation.  I'm thinking about an intimate visit to a producing winery, a negoçiant or winery tasting room on the property or in the nearest village.

## Tacking on a Day Trip

Almost every major city has a wine region within quick striking distance.  This isn’t hyperbole – you can visit a producer within a few hours drive of most major cities:

- ### San Francisco
  
  Napa Valley, Sonoma, Carneros, San Luis Obispo and many more…
- ### Paris
  
  Loire to the West, Bourgogne to the East, Champagne to the North and many, many more to the South.
- ### Frankfurt & Bonn
  
  A little thing called the Rhein features incredible wine, but the amazing Mosel is close by.
- ### Austin
  
  We are becoming a world class destination. The road to Fredericksburg is an incredible wine trail with purpose-built tasting rooms and entertainment facilities designed for wine enthusiasts.
- ### Portland, Oregon
  
  Head east into Willamette Valley and enjoy Burgundy and Alsatian varietals.
- ### Barcelona
  
  Cava anyone?

- ### London
  
  Champagne for quality sparkling wine producers an easy day trip south of London.
- ### Cape Town
  
  It literally has it’s own named region within the city boundaries as of 2017, but great Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon in Stellenbosch is not far!
- ### Vienna
  
  Another city with it’s own wine region and multiple great wine regions nearby.
- ### Any Italian City
  
   Florence, Rome, Milan, Venice…  There are so many producers nearby that you might be slightly overwhelmed.  Take an extra weekend when travelling here.  Or an extra week or two!
- ### Sydney
  
  Hunter Valley isn’t too far and there are many more nearby.
- ### Melbourne
  
  Yarra Valley and many more.
